Asthma:
The Cause:
Toxic levels of salt (sodium chloride) and the toxic products of starch indigestion combined with weak adrenals. Poor adrenal activity impairs the kidney function. Trying to help the weak kidneys, the lungs attempt to secrete some of the toxins through the mucous membranes. The result is a catarrhal bronchitis involving the small bronchial tubes, ie. asthma.
Treatment:
"I have found that a rational and often successful treatment depends first upon detoxicating the patient. This is followed by an attempt to build up the asthma victim's adrenals, thus removing as much strain as possible from the congested liver." - p. 164, Food is Your Best Medicine
Do's:
Low starch vegetables, lean animal protein (especially lamb or beef, but only when breathing becomes comfortable). Other foods may be added once the condition improves. Adequate physical rest and reduction of stress.
Don'ts:
Salt, grains, flour products, milk, eggs, chocolate, fish (this is a partial list). Fruit and other acid juices should also be avoided during an attack.
